The Conference Venue

PNG Events
The 83rd ACP Council Meeting, from 28th - 31st May, and the joint 31st ACP-EC Council of Ministers meeting, from 1-2 June 2006, will be held at the Sir John Guise Indoor Sports Complex, Waigani. The opening of the joint meetings on June 1 will be in the chambers of the National Parliament.

Access to Meeting Venue

Access to the Conference Venue is by Security Pass only. Movement within the Conference Venue is restricted by the colour-coded Security Pass.

Delegates Handbook and Program

A Delegates Handbook is being prepared separately and will be given to each delegate, participant, guest on registration. The information content will be more detailed and include the programs.

Registration

The formalities to register delegates will start when the Accreditation Form 1 and Media Accreditation Form 2 are received by the PNG Events Council Secretariat. The registration will be done at the conference venue on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May.

Meals

Delegates will be provided with refreshments throughout the morning and afternoon sessions. A food court and the Beehives Bar are located on the first floor of the conference venue.

Health Requirements

Malaria is endemic to Papua New Guinea, thus visitors are advised to seek medical advice before travelling. There is no outbreak of bird-flu, however the Department of Health is prepared for this emergency should the need arise. HIV Aids is an ongoing concern and visitors are urged to take precautions when socialising.

Travel

Air Niuigini is located on the ground floor of the conference venue.

Bank/Money Change

Banking facilities at the Bank South Pacific are located on the ground floor of the building.

Telephone

Telephone booths for prepaid cards are located around the foyer and outside the building. Such cards will be on sale in the foyer.

Internet Café

An internet café is located on the first floor.

Trade and Tourism Exhibition

Booths displaying trade and tourism exhibitions will be in the area adjacent to the conference venue.

Medical Centre

A medical centre staffed with a nurse will be located on the ground floor of the conference venue. Paramedics from St. John Ambulance, will also be available. Delegates with special medical needs should notify the PNG Events Council Secretariat as soon as possible so that their needs are attended to.

Hotel Accommodation

The following hotels have been designated to accommodate the ACP-EC delegates. They been selected for security, comfort and accessibility. (You can indicate your preference for hotel accommodation in the space allocated in Official Accreditation Form 1 and the Media Accreditation Form 2.) To avoid disappointment, delegates should already have indicated their preference of accommodation or made their booking through the PNG Events Council Secretariat. Accommodation in Port Moresby ranges from five star ratings to budget accommodation and they are all within reasonable distance from the Conference Venue. The hotel booking deadline is 30 April 2006.
